Final Ring

Most projects move from first consultation to a finished ring in 8–12 weeks. The timeline depends on design complexity and stone sourcing — both are discussed upfront so there are no surprises.

a private, design-led approach

Designing an engagement ring can feel overwhelming. Our approach keeps it simple — one designer, one client, no sales floor.

At West of Fourth, you work directly with the designer from first conversation to final piece. There's no handoff to a different team member, no upselling, and no pressure to decide on the day.

What does a custom ring cost?

Custom rings at West of Fourth typically begin around $4,000, with most projects falling between $5,000 and $12,000. The final cost depends on your centre stone, metal type, and design — all of which are discussed transparently before any work begins.

Custom doesn't mean more expensive. Because the ring is built around your priorities, more of your budget goes toward the stone and materials — not a pre-made design you're adapting.

how it works

1. Consultation — Meet in-person in Calgary or virtually. Share your ideas, budget, and any inspiration. No pressure, no commitment required.

2. Design development and stone selection — We create hand-drawn sketches, 3D renderings, and wax models based on your direction. You review, give feedback, and refine until it's right. Stone options are sourced and presented at this stage.

3. Crafting your ring — Once the design is approved, your ring is crafted to spec. You'll receive updates throughout, and a final quality review is done before delivery. Most rings are completed within 6–10 weeks of design approval.

stone options & sourcing

Stone selection is part of the process, guided based on your style, budget, and preferences.

  • Natural and lab-grown diamonds are available in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and qualities. While classic cuts are always available, many clients are drawn to antique and uncommon cuts such as rose cuts, old mine cuts, and other vintage-inspired shapes that offer a softer, more distinctive character.

  • Available in a full spectrum of hues—including blue, green, teal, yellow, pink, and bi-colour variations—sapphires offer remarkable range for engagement rings. Their colour diversity allows each piece to feel distinctive while remaining timeless.

Durable and well suited for daily wear, sapphires provide a practical alternative to traditional diamond engagement rings while allowing for far greater colour expression.

  • Montana sapphires are especially known for their muted, natural palette and subtle internal character. They often appear in soft blues, smoky greens, teal tones, and steel-coloured shades that feel understated and organic.

Each stone is unique, and many clients are drawn to Montana sapphires for their natural variation and quietly distinctive colour.

  • Defined by internal markings that create an organic, textured appearance. Each stone is visually distinct, with a spectrum from soft grey to deep, storm-like tones.

  • Modern, minimal, and bold. Black diamonds offer strong visual contrast and a refined, architectural look within custom structures.

  • Spinel, tourmaline, aquamarine, morganite, and other coloured stones thoughtfully selected and reviewed for hue, clarity, durability, and individual character.

  • Existing stones can often be incorporated into a new design. Heirloom diamonds and gemstones are carefully assessed and thoughtfully reused, allowing meaningful pieces to be reimagined in a new setting.

About West of Fourth →

I came in with very little knowledge about jewelry design, but she walked me through every step of the design with patience and clear explanations... She took the time to understand exactly what I was looking for and turned my ideas into a piece even better than I ever imagined.

My wife waited 20 years for this ring so needless to say, I needed to nail this... Melissa completely nailed it.
